The Impact of Being Lost

1 min read

Do you ever feel lost? Not knowing what to focus on next…or, just completely unable to tap into your get-up-and-go?

I can totally relate…in more ways than I care to admit.

From July 3-11, 1992 I literally was a missing person / victim of crime…and, (also LITERALLY) lost to the world. To add insult to injury my “captor” was “kind” enough to pick up the local newspapers on a daily basis so we could both get an outsider’s view on where the outside world thought I was.

This is the actual MISSING person poster that was distributed.

To say the least, all of it was/is a very surreal feeling…

Today, close to 30 years later, I try not to let this past experience define me, but in a lot of ways it sneaks in…and does. I don’t think a day goes by where the feeling of being misunderstood, different, alone…and/or just simply LOST doesn’t pop into my subconscious to say a quick “hello!”…”I’m still HERE!!”…

…”she” (little miss subconscious) likes to taunt me, especially when I’m not feeling so mentally strong.

But…I do my very best to keep moving forward.

Which is sometimes is all that we can do.

On a positive note…on my healing journey, I have also come to realize that many MANY others can relate to my feelings of being lost…and that this feeling does NOT necessarily have to stem from being a victim of crime.

THAT is a very cool feeling.

It helps me feel less alone…and connected…and that REALLY keeps me moving.

Forward.

This month I am celebrating what I overcame, as well as all that lies ahead.

With planITgirl I will be sharing more in the coming weeks and months about who has come together in my corner, and how we are working together to understand the effects of mental health/stress/trauma/anxiety/ptsd (ETC!!)…and create a positive impact.

If this excites you, please feel free to reach out…and/or stay tuned…

…because with friends, better stories are in our future.

It is up to us to come together to make them real.

If you feel (or care for someone who feels) lost, isolated, different, stuck and misunderstood, we hope the thoughts, stories and connections shared will resonate with you.
