The Backstory
I moved to Vancouver (BC) from Calgary (AB) in 1992 to pursue a career in journalism. My interest in this field stemmed from my life-long passion for writing and storytelling.
I had just turned 21 and was SO excited to be on my way to achieving my dreams. Three months after I arrived however I was robbed and kidnapped at gunpoint when working on my own in a retail setting.
I literally disappeared without a trace for nine days. I was violated and hurt in ways that no person should ever have to endure.
This experience scarred me deeply…although to the outside eye, the impact of the scarring was completely invisible. (I am pretty good at showing my teeth…)
For 20+ years I struggled silently with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but, it wasn’t until I hit rock bottom both mentally and physically that I learned how to make changes to get healthy again…in my body, and in my mind.
Today, I share my story HERE while building and sharing a community that could help you HERE.
Everyone has their own unique story, and their own unique journey. My journey continues to evolve.
My wish is that YOU find the stories, connections and resources that will help you.
HERE
Post-traumatic growth is truly possible.
